Sooooo... on Tuesday, our school found out that 2 students had bacterial meningitis so they called everyone at home and said that the LA Department of Health would be in our gym giving out antibiotics that night to anyone who was in close contact with the people who were infected. Then the school called again and said that they recommended everyone come take the pill as a precautionary measure. At first, me and Marilee thought it was stupid to go get the pill because you have to be exchanging spit and snot to actually get meningitis. But then Mama looked up meningitis online and this scary website that said "Meningitis can kill within hours" came up sooooo, we went and took the pill. Apparently other people found that website too because we waited in a long, long line (which kept getting longer) to get into the gym while the news reporters were walking around getting interviews. It was pretty funny. The news reporters, I mean. We were the top story on the news Tuesday night!
Anyway, the next morning at school (as we were walking into school) we saw about 10 news vans from different channels parked out in front of the main office. By the way, they are ridiculous looking because they have these huge 20 ft. tall poles sticking out of them with a satelite thingy at the top.
So, we heard that the one girl who had the bad case of meningitis had been put in an induced coma (she's come out of it today though) and at least one more person had been taken to the hospital because the Health Department people were worried they had meningitis too. We also heard that some people had allergic reactions to the pill. But they said the students that are in the hospital are expected to make a full recovery, so that's good.
The health department is gone now and so are the news vans. This is probably the most exciting thing that has happened at our school since "Sparky, the squirrel" got electrocuted and caused a power outage.

It was funny because we saw our friends on the news.
Now that guy who talks about sparky all the time on the intercom can now crack jokes about meningitis. Maybe. Hhee.
That is CRAZY!!!!! What are the symptoms of meningitis? I might have it. Hee, hee. Or stress-in-gitis.
Good Lord, that's scary. We've had a similar thing up here, except with Norovirus....at a Science camp in the mountains for elementary school students. Hundreds of people have gotten sick and they can't find the cause. They have disinfected everything at the camp and a new crew went up -- they got sick too. Hmmmmmmmm......
Maybe there are evil trees at the camp that give the virus to people.
or not.
