A plastic plate was permanently inserted in her arm to both maintain alignment during mending, and enhance the integrity and strength of the weakened area after mending.
The surgery was done on an out-patient basis at the hospital's Same Day Surgery Center.
Shirley is home. Her arm is immobilized in a splint and a sling. Right now there is no cast, apparently so the surgeon can check the healing of the surgical wound. A cast may come later.
Mending time? 6-8 weeks, just like any other broken bone.

Phew! Thank goodness this is a stock photo - I am almost positive it's surgery of a C-section, no?
ha, ha.
Glad to hear the surgery went well! Shirley is in my prayers!
